Member Spotlight – Scott Villers
- What made you want to join RockBox Fitness Mooresville?
I realized I was letting myself get too out of shape. In November 2018, my doctor said I had way too much bad cholesterol and was considering putting me on pills. I knew I had to make a lifestyle change with a better diet and more exercise.
- What are your fitness goals?
Ultimately, I would like to get down to the weight I was at when I first went to college, which is about 40 pounds below my first weigh-in at RockBox. I am about halfway to that goal.
- What are some of your successes since becoming a RockBox member?
I like being able to complete the RockBox workouts without feeling like dying afterwards. I also like being 20 pounds down and, more importantly, being able to maintain that weight level. I was able to bring my aforementioned bad cholesterol down 45 points in a year. I feel healthier overall and even sleep significantly better.
- When did you join RockBox?
I joined RockBox in January 2019.
- What was your previous fitness program/activity?
I did occasional mountain biking or hiking at Lake Norman State Park and also hikes at other parks in the area. The rest of the time, I just sat around watching TV or playing video games. I ate unhealthy food almost exclusively and drank lots of beer.
- About you: Where are you from, what do you do, what are your interests?
I am originally from Wisconsin, and I moved to Mooresville in August 2013. I am a senior network engineer for a healthcare company based in Chicago, and I work from home the majority of the time. My wife, Sheri, and I enjoy hiking, especially in the mountains. We also enjoy traveling, camping, and watching just about any other sporting event. We are attending the Final Four college basketball tournament in Atlanta in April.
- What’s your favorite boxing combination?
Six uppercuts, two hooks. A close second is jab/cross, hook, upper, upper, hook.
- What’s your least favorite functional exercise?
I dislike Russian twists, especially when a weight of any kind is involved.
- What’s your favorite healthy meal or snack?
I enjoy an egg white casserole with bison meat and all the ingredients in chili besides beans, e.g. tomatoes, onions and peppers. It literally tastes just like chili. Once I got past the thought of eating meat and vegetable dishes at breakfast time being weird, I actually started to embrace it. For snacks, I usually stick with either almonds or macadamia nuts.
- What’s your favorite part about being a RockBox Member?
It is a great feeling when people I have not seen in a long time are shocked at the sight of me being leaner and more fit. Some of my friends and family joke that I am withering away and need to eat something. The RockBox trainers and other members are awesome people, which makes it easy to keep coming back each week.
